Supplements to Boost Immune Health

Dr. Barke recommends taking a few different supplements during this time to boost immunity.

1. Vitamin D3 + K2 (K-Force)

Vitamin D3 is very important in our immune system functioning. Many of us are low in D3 due to our avoiding the sun. Low vitamin D level is not good when facing COVID-19. When you take supplemental D3 it is advised that you take K2 along with it. Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 ensure that calcium is absorbed easily and reaches the bone mass, while preventing arterial calcification.

2. Zinc

Zinc is an important element in combating viral infections. Zinc inhibits the replication of viruses inside the cell.

3. Quercetin

Quercetin acts as an ionophore – helping zinc to enter the cell. Quercetin is also a powerful antioxidant supplement and is used for cardiovascular health as well as immune support.

4. Fish-oil

Fish-oil is a powerful antioxidant and may be one of the more important supplements to take daily.

5. Melatonin

We often think of Melatonin as a sleep aid. Turns out that Melatonin is also important for proper immune system functioning. We know that children naturally produce Melatonin but older adults not so much. At worst a low dose of Melatonin will help with sleep and at best it can support a healthy immune system.

Remember, always consult your primary care physician prior to taking any supplements.
